Courting on the River!

The Shire of Dark River invites you to the Western Frontier of the Middle Kingdom at the nexus of three great Kingdoms for a day of fighting, A&S, games, food, friends, and fun!  Come test your martial skills of Cut & Thrust, Rapier, and Armored combat with fighters of three kingdoms before the war season begins.  Display your skills in Arts & Sciences and compete in our Triple Threat Challenge.  

This year we challenge all those who attend to participate in three specific activities (A&S, volunteering, and fighting) during the event to qualify for an awesome prize!  More information can be found under the Arts & Sciences tab

Feast will have Seven Deadly Sins theme.  Do you have virtuous or sinful taste buds?  Come find out at our feast.  More information will become available as the menu is finalized. 

For those of you who love to play with string, we will have a Fiber Arts Salon.  There you can discuss your projects with those who a clewe about the subjects, learn new techniques, or even spin a yarn or two.

We will have not one, but two Arts and Sciences competitions.  The first one will involve "Hidden Gems" in your entry.  These hidden gems are modern elements that you have hidden in your project.  The second competition will be largess of 12 items.   At the completion of the event, all entries will presented to the Crown for future populous gifts.  More information can be found under the Arts & Science tab.

Road Construction Warning!

Please be aware there is I-74 bridge construction (Illinois/ Iowa Mississippi River Bridge) and road construction along John Deere Road. 


The site is very handicap accessible.  Please contact the event steward if you have questions about site accessibility.

There will be coffee and water available throughout the day.  We highly encourage you to bring your own mug!

We also would love to see your heraldry represented! There will be space around the edges of the room to display banners. Please bring your own banner and a stand for it, we would love to see it!

(Note: site does not allow pinning, taping, or affixing items to the walls)


Site Rules:

This site is completely alcohol free.  Please respect the sites rules.  Anyone found to have alcohol on the premises will be asked to leave. 

  • THE SCA PROHIBITS HARASSMENT AND BULLYING OF ALL INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS.
  • Participants engaging in this behavior are subject to appropriate sanctions.
  • If you are subjected to harassment, bullying or retaliation, or if you become aware of anyone being harassed or bullied, contact a seneschal, President of the SCA, or your Kingdom’s Board Ombudsman.


Site fees:

Ages 0-8: Free

 Ages 8-16:  $8 ($3 with membership discount)

Ages 16+:  $10 ($5 with membership discount)

Feast:  $10

Lunch: $5


Fundraiser:

This year's fundraiser will support a local animal shelter.  All donations will go directly to the Quad Cities Animal Welfare Center.  A list of items in need can be found on their website.

Cut & Thrust tourney : 11am pool tourney with counted after blows. 2 points for a win with out an after blow, 1 point each if an after blow connects, 0 points for a loss.

12-2: lunch, pick ups, inspections, and authorizations

Armored tourney: 2pm depending on how many fighters attend. It will be a pool tourney or double elimination.

I will try to have an open list for pick ups during the tourneys for the other martial activities.

4-5pm close down list for clean up and feast set up.
